2020 was a record year for fires in the Golden State. The fires filled the air with smoke from Oregon to Southern California on the west coast. While very destructive, the smoke made for some beautiful sunrise and sunset photographs.

Split Burl Wood - Bristlecone Pine
Split burl wood from a downed Ancient Bristlecone Pine Tree that could have been as old as 5,000 years. The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest in central California is home to the oldest trees in the world; many of these trees live in what would otherwise be above the tree line at altitudes above 12,500 feet. The color of the wood from these amazing trees varies from golden yellow to red, similar to the Giant Sequoia redwood trees found in nearby Forrest, also some of the oldest trees on Earth.
