It's hard to imagine that this beautiful little waterfall is actually located in the confines of Death Valley NP! An interesting 1.5 mile round trip hike takes you down a canyon and across a small creek to this secluded and quiet area, where the only sounds you'll hear come from the water cascading down the falls, and an occasional bird singing in the distance!
Ah, Oregon Waterfalls
National Creek Falls is at the end of a two-mile hike through some of the most beautiful forest I've ever seen. Huge moss-covered trees frame the path to the Falls that cloak you in near silence as you trod along the pine needle covered trails that don't give away your presence to man nor beast. We had to traverse a fallen tree that spanned the creek below to reach our chosen camera location. It was kind of slippery getting the other side and being sure-footed didn't hurt!
Water and Squeeze Ups
Toketee Falls in Oregon is a majestic waterfall that cascades over and through a facing of volcanic squeeze ups. The striations were forced up through very hard rock and cooled eons ago. Much like toothpaste squeezed from the tube to form a round shape on your toothbrush.... Well, that's close enough!
Moss is Everywhere!
A wider view of Warm Springs Falls shows the landscape covered with green moss. I suppose the constant supply of mist provides the moisture required for the moss to flourish. Every time I walk away from a scene like this, I wonder why I didn't stay longer and enjoy more of the view!
I Dunno Falls
Located in the Many Glacier part of Waterton National Park, in Canada, we found this nice roaring powerful little waterfall. The creek that runs below the waterfall gives the falls its name (by us). When Jeanne asked a Ranger the name of the falls, he shrugged his shoulders and said "I dunno"...... So, that's the name we liked best!
Running Eagle Falls
This waterfall is named after a real Indian Princess that was placed in a tree overlooking the falls when she died. Her name was Running Eagle, and so the falls now shares her name. If you look closely, you can see that this is really two falls. The upper falls is obvious, but the lower falls actually comes out of a cave in the lower third of the image. Normally, only the lower falls would be seen this time of the year, but with the large snow fall and rains this winter/spring, it's still going strong from both water flows.
Literally Downtown
In Waterton NP on the Canadian side of Waterton Glacier NP, the Waterton township has a really nice surprise for visitors in the form of Cameron Falls. Less than 50 yards from the road at the South end of town is this powerful display of water falling fifty feet into the pool below the cascade. Our visit at this waterfall was cut short when the morning rain began to get us a bit too damp.....
The Rocks are Leaking
Natural Falls State Park, Oklahoma, HDRI image. This beautiful waterfall and grotto are a very peaceful place. Bench seats allow visitors to sit and enjoy the sight and sound of the cascading water as it pours over the 70 ft. drop to the pool below. Springs run out of the walls that feed the ferns growing in the cracks in the rough limestone formations. All of this is contrasted with orange and green colors throughout the entire structure. All in all, it's a good 10 degrees cooler at the base of the falls than at the top of the walkway that winds down to the observation platform. A beautiful place to visit......
Secluded Water
Pin Wheel Falls is located in Yosemite National Park, California. A short trail winds through the trees to reach this viewpoint. Recently, a large boulder fell into the pool at the base of the falls, and a large tree has fallen and covers the bottom of the water flow. You can get around the boulder to see the falls, but the tree needs to be moved.
No Longer a Secret
Fall Foliage trip Sept 25, 2010. Jeanne bought a post card in a convenient store in Silverton with this waterfall depicted. It's unusual for the photographer to give directions to their private/secret places, but this one did! So, we drove to where we thought it was located, and after a couple of bumpy miles of passing it up on the road, turning around and going back, we found it. It's a gorgeous place, and a great waterfall to say the least..... :)
Long Way Down
We found Clear Creek Falls in Southern Colorado by accident. We were on the way home from a Spring trip to the Rockies when we noticed a small sign indicating the way to the Falls. The Falls deserve a large sign since there's nothing small about this waterfall. The cascade drops over a hundred and fifty feet to the creek below, and what a sound to hear!
