Frank Haley - Sweet Light
Read MoreWhat more can be said about the beautiful glow of the Hoo Doos when they are photographed right after sunset. This is the area formerly known as "Kodachrome Point", now known as "Sunset Point". Both names fit the views from the rim of the canyon very well, and even though we don't see much "Kodachrome" film anymore, the colors here live up to the famous film and it's deep rich reds, yellows and oranges exceedingly well. When you visit Bryce Canyon, don't miss this spectacular view!
Our trip to Lone Pine and Death Valley National Park took us down Hiway 395 and to a short turn out off the Hiway that took us to Convict Lake. As is evident by the frozen lake and snow packed mountains, it's still cold in early April! What doesn't show in this panorama is the gusty wind that reminded us not to let go of our tripods unless we wanted to see our cameras dashed to the ground. In between gusts we experienced the serenity and beauty of this icy chilly view from the lakes edge......
Farther down Hiway 395 we left the cold and frozen higher elevations behind us and began our descent into the Owens Valley region 22 miles north of Lone Pine. As you can see from this photograph, spring has sprung! We gazed across acres upon acres of bright yellow flowers in the meadows that frame base of the mountains, and marveled at the higher snow capped peaks in the distance. The afternoon sky offered a deep azure blue color contrasted by delicately shaped high wispy clouds. Rick marked this spot on his GPS, and we returned here on our journey back to his house a few days later..... More photographs of the return visit to follow.
