This made long bombing flights loud and cold as these intrepid airmen climbed as high as possible to avoid enemy flak. Compared to todays modern passenger pressurized cabins with comfortable seats (well, better than our vets had) and drink service, these aircraft were amazingly effective and instrumental in winning the war.
